The only thing that made me even consider it was that I had zero interest in the Paris Hilton episode, but I ended up really liking it. But still... no.
Oh goodness, Paris Hilton's changed my whole deal with her!
BTW in answer to your question, I've been listening to Rosie O'Donnell's Onward lately. And have you tried Handsome with Tig, Fortune, and Mae? That one gives me full-on belly laughs.
Yeah, I'm not looking for a comedy podcast, I want deep dive interviews. Hard to listen to Rosie O'Donnell only because I know of her history of being super mean to people! Maybe I'll try one with a guest I really like, like Samantha Bee or Cyndi Lauper, but her guest list is not sparking joy. Ha. Looks like Handsome is an evolution of sorts from Don't Ask Tig, which I liked, so maybe I'll try it even if it won't satisfy that particular itch I'm looking for. Thanks!
And yes, wasn't that Paris Hilton episode surprising?
Just listened to the Cyndi Lauper one yesterday--I'd say it's the type of conversation you're looking for, but yeah I understand the resistance. My need to feel some sense of sympatico with my podcast host has had me feeling a little squirmy even with some of the AE fact check conversations--but that's probably a much longer conversation than a Substack comment allows :D
Ha! I see a lot of comments about those conversations. I just love those two so when they say ridiculous things, I kind of laugh it off. Rosie was notoriously mean when her talk show was at its most popular, it's hard to shake that off. A friend of mine worked on it. I especially hated that her reputation was "queen of nice" when she was so awful to deal with. At least with Dax and Monica, they are who they say they are. Rosie may have matured over the years, though, I don't know.
Oh gosh, I'd forgotten that about Rosie--and I didn't have the up-close awareness of it that you have. That aside, I have noticed I go through ebbs and flows with those podcasters I love for being open and authentic--like the person you love, then you get irritated with the way they sip their tea :D
Yep, hard pass on AE this week!
